2011 Don Shula NFL Coach of the Year Award Program
About the Program
The Don Shula NFL Coach of the Year award honors high school football coaches that display the integrity, achievement, and leadership exemplified by the winningest coach in NFL history, Don Shula.
Current NFL players will nominate their former high school football coaches who had a profound impact on their athletic and personal development, while each NFL team will submit one nomination of a local high school football coach. All coach nominees should demonstrate the exemplary characteristics of Coach Don Shula as outlined above.

Award Amount
The Don Shula Award winner receives $10,000 and his High School football program is awarded $15,000.
If your former high school football coach is named the 2011 Don Shula NFL Coach of the Year, he also wins an all-expense paid trip to Super Bowl XLVI in Indianapolis. Three Coach of the Year finalists will receive $2,500 while $5,000 grants will be awarded to their high school football programs.
Each coach nominee will receive a congratulatory letter from the NFL, citing the nomination by his former player or NFL team as well as inclusion of background information on the Don Shula NFL Coach of the Year award program. All participating coaches must fill out an online questionnaire which allows the blue ribbon panel of sports leaders to learn more about the coaches and their coaching philosophies, and ultimately provide the basis on selecting the three finalists and 2011 Don Shula NFL
Coach of the Year.
Application Requirements
In order to be considered eligible for this award program, the following requirements apply:
- Only current NFL players may nominate their former high school football coaches for the 2011 Don Shula NFL Coach of the Year Award program.
- Each NFL team must nominate a local high school football coach who meets the award criteria
